Hello!
You are about to take a course in a virtual classroom. To ensure that all goes well, you should take certain steps BEFORE and DURING the classes.
BEFORE your first meeting in the virtual classroom, you should prepare your equipment for a successful login. You will find the necessary instructions in the section Getting ready to log in. As for any training, it is always a good idea to prepare oneself BEFORE each class. You will find tips on class preparation in the section Getting ready to learn.

BEFORE
Getting ready to log in
Let us go over what you will need in terms of equipment, internet connexion, software and equipement testing to successfully log in.
Equipment needed
Make sure you have the following equipment to access the virtual classroom:
- A computer or tablet (Windows/macOS or Android/iOS)
- Any relatively recent computer will support the software.
- Headphones or a headset
- Their use prevents audio feedback when speaking into the microphone.
- Cellphone earpieces work very well.
- Take note that if you are using a desktop computer, it will not have a built-in microphone. It is therefore necessary to obtain a headset or headphones with a built-in microphone in order to communicate directly with the trainer and with your classmates during the group sessions.
Internet Connexion
To maintain a stable internet connexion throughout the virtual class, you should:
- Have access to a stable high speed internet connexion (10 Mb/s)
- Ideally, connect your device to an internet port using an ethernet cable (RJ45)
- Have the means to disable the VPN you are using
- Being connected to a VPN, for work-related reasons for example, greatly impedes the stability of your connection.
Software
To gain access to the virtual classroom, install Microsoft Teams . Click on the relevant link and follow the instructions.
- Windows and macOS computers: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/microsoft-teams/download-app
Equipment testing
To reduce the risk of technical glitches, run a diagnostic and microphone test before your first virtual classroom meeting.
1. Microphone testing
Why?
Microphone testing ensures your microphone works properly.
When?
Run the test before your first meeting in the virtual classroom.
How?
Run the test on the device and microphone that you will be using during your virtual classes.
The test can be done when you join the virtual classroom. Please refer to the section "Logging in to the virtual classroom" to learn more.
2. Camera testing
Why?
Camera testing ensures your camera works properly.
When?
Run the test before your first meeting in the virtual classroom.
How?
The test can be done when you join the virtual classroom. Please refer to the section "Logging in to the virtual classroom" to learn more.
Logging in to the virtual classroom
It is now time to log in to the virtual classroom. Follow these instructions to proceed. It is important to note that this procedure follows a typical log-in scenario. It means that the Microsoft Teams app is already downloaded and a Teams personnal or professional/school account is already created.
- Click on the link given to you beforehand.
- Click on the option to open the meeting in the app. We recommend it.
- Test your headphones and your camera in the dedicated area.
- Click on the bottom-right button reading "Join now".
- Follow the instructions given to you.

It is important to mute your microphone after testing it. You can click on the microphone icon to mute it before requesting to enter the virtual classroom.
Keep your virtual classroom window open at all times to avoid disconnection during the class.
If you didn't download the app and/or didn't have a Teams account prior, following the procedure above will naturally guide you towards those two additional steps. Please plan your time accordingly in order to do those extra steps.
